Day 4 numbers by Daniel

Closing figures after day #4: 21,398 steps and 115,018 on the aggregate.

My daily average is at 28,754, which falls above the goal I set for the first part (25k), but I will have to work harder to keep it up, since mid week is comming and Wednesdays and Thursdays are my busiest days, so I don't have a lot of time to workout then. I guess I will have to seize those days to the maximum.

Day 5 walk by Daniel

Ok, so it has been 5 days so far and I am starting to really feel tired now, but I just won't stop.

I went for a little walk in Santa Ana with Gabriel, my almost 4 year old son. Although it was barely over 2mi. long, there are two important thinks to note:

#1: As I noted before, the less hilly the road is, the more steps you get over the same distance (perhaps I take longer steps when walking over a hill)

#2: Walking alongside my little one adds an extra challenge, because when he gets tired I carry him in my arms, and that is an extra weight I do appreciate at all times

Day 4, lap #2 by Daniel

Well, I finished the errand that made me go to San Francisco de Dos Ríos and so I took the opportunity to walk back to San José. My intention was to walk all the way to La Sabana, but unfortunately I had no time, as I was scheduled to work.

Therefore, adding up these two laps I walked in total 8.62 miles, which is 13.87km.

Day 4, lap #1 by Daniel

So, I decided to split once again my workout of this day in two laps, mainly because I needed to run an errand that required me to go faster than I could walk (with enough time, I definitely would have accepted the challenge).

So, for this first portion, I started at home in Santa Ana and took the "panoramic-rather long-full of mountains" road. 

I used to do this route often biking, and few times walking or running. When biking, I used to do a round trip starting at my parents house in Guachipelín. But when on my own feet, I just did one way, from Guachipelín to Santa Ana. Because of that and because I hadn´t done it in quite a while, I -lets say decided- to take the external way through Lindora, instead of through Pozos. That made it longer.

 2.4mi. completed, at Lindora/Pozos


 I will try going the other way some other day, because it took me quite a while to complete the entire lap, 1:53 hours.

 Up up up! When you´re down, there´s no other way
to go than up! At Pavicen after an hour walk, 3.74mi

 That was only half of the incline, but the best location for a picture. I will eventually look for an app to determine the altitude.





 When looking at my final numbers, 6.18mi. I couldn´t avoid to think that with all the time and effort I put into it, I could have gone a lot further and marked more steps than I did, if I had chosen a route with less elevation. Well, at least it will work as training for some of my future plans.

Day 2 by Daniel

Today is a work day so I had to seize the morning and avoid the rain as much as possible. On top of my new excercise routine at home (no gym for me at the moment, I have enough equipment for the time being) I went out for an hour long walk in downtown Santa Ana. I did  a different route this time, which was rather long because it took me the full hour to complete just a single lap.

By the end of it, the aggregate numbers were 42,236 steps.

Now, I have a clarification to make to the rest of the teams: since we plan to enter our data to GCC during the afternoons, given the fact that we work mostly in that schedule and in that way we would let other coworkers monitor our activity and numbers, for this first day only, our numbers entered include day and a half, unlike most of others that I asked. We apologise if you find this inconvenient. Please note that although it is a half day advantage, it is noticeable only for this first few days, later on it will not make any difference and by the time that all of our numbers are computed, you all will have that half day added, so we will all be even.

Finally, if that makes a difference, I plan to break this "day and a half record" of mine on a single day very soon, so we have an accurate day long record ;)

Day #1 session #2 by Daniel

A real UCR power walk, extending the path of the Milla Universitaria more than a little bit: 3 circuits totaling 5.12 mi.

And of course, most important, 30,285 steps in less than 20 hours on my first day!

Ended session #1 (with additional workout earlier in the morning) with 4.23 mi. And 16,742 steps overall!

I used the Nike app on my Galaxy tab, unfortunately my cellphone still has no signals of life so I may not use this app on every session, as it is extremely unconfortable to have to walk carrying a bagpack: I swear my back and shoulders hurt more than my feet.

UCR Power Walk by Daniel

GCC test walk day #errr? I forgot...: anyway, it was an improvised UCR Power Walk. For the next time, I will not forget to wear comfortable clothes, especially sneakers and most of all, do not bring a humunculous bagpack: I shall not forget that I am not an actual turtle... and they walk very slowly anyway...

GCC Test day #4: The Multiplaza with Gabriel trial

Well, it is too soon to be calling "personal best" each time I improve myself, but this is actually the first time I outbest my pre-season numbers, hopefully I'll do better each day.

For this trial, I used Multiplaza Escazú -one of my preferred regular day walking venues- with the detail that my 4 year old son, Gabriel, came with me. I had the theory, since he is a very energetic kid, that he would make me walk more. I will have to do another trial without him, but now I feel I will complete more steps without him.

To end this 25 hour day (it may be hard to enter the data every day at the exact same hour, but in the end, final numbers is all that matters, right?) I had the assistance of my little personal trainer, who cared enough to run around the house behind me... we had a good time together and finished exhausted!
